Abstract

One of those brilliant concepts that occasionally captures the attention of the policy community is mentoring. Everyone recognises that experience is a valuable source of knowledge, and it is even more beneficial to be able to benefit from the knowledge of others. Thus, this is where the "mentoring movement" starts. Developing a close relationship with a knowledge guide is viewed as an all-purpose resource that provides remedies to disadvantages as well as chances for growth. With mentoring programs being started from the maternity ward to the hospice and from the prison wing to the boardroom, these are the modest beginnings of an idea that has emerged via social and public policy.
Some of the evidence supporting these therapies is compiled in this paper. However, the review is not included in the decision-making process. Mentoring will have its place and time, just like any other brilliant idea. Decision-makers must recognise that the information only provides conditional and circumstantial truths, not a clear-cut yes or no for mentorship. Accordingly, the focus here is on the mentoring relationship. What makes for a good partnership between mentor and mentee? How does the partnership grow? Who is most qualified to provide assistance? Who stands to gain? The goal of the synthesis is to provide a theory of mentoring relationships in order to address these explanatory goals. The goal is to develop a model that will be useful for implementing and identifying such programmers and, most importantly, for setting reasonable expectations for what is possible.
The majority of the review's evidence comes from empirical studies on youth mentoring, which pairs underprivileged and frequently disillusioned youth with an experienced adult. It highlights the types of social forces that a relationship must endure in order to succeed, making it possibly the most difficult task to mention. However, in order to better understand the dynamics of the partnerships, the review also examines a number of very different schemes, as mentoring relationships can be found in all walks of life. As a result, although in somewhat less detail, workplace mentoring, youth-on-youth peer support, and self-help interventions to support the ill are also examined.
